Description
A rich and moist chocolate cake topped with creamy cream cheese frosting, perfect for any celebration.
Ingredients
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla, and mix until well combined.
- Carefully stir in the boiling water (the batter will be thin).
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
- Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and cool completely on wire racks.
- For the frosting, beat the cream cheese and butter together until smooth.
- Gradually add the powdered sugar and mix until fully incorporated. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Once the cakes are completely cooled, spread the cream cheese frosting between the layers and on top and sides of the cake.
Notes
Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for best results. Add a little milk to the frosting if it’s too thick.
