Description
A warm, soft cake with a gooey chocolate center, perfect for birthdays or quiet nights.
Ingredients
- 1 cup (120 g) all-purpose flour
- 1 cup (200 g) sugar
- 1/2 cup (45 g) cocoa powder, unsweetened
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) milk
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) vegetable oil or melted butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) hot strong coffee or hot water
- 3/4 cup (130 g) dark chocolate chips or chopped dark chocolate (for center)
- Optional: powdered sugar or ice cream to serve
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round pan.
- In a bowl, sift flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt. Stir in sugar.
- In another bowl, beat eggs. Add milk, oil, and vanilla. Mix well.
- Pour the wet mix into the dry mix. Stir until smooth.
- Add hot coffee slowly and stir until incorporated.
- Pour half the batter into the pan. Place the chocolate chips in the center.
- Pour the rest of the batter over the chips. Tap the pan to remove air.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes, until the top sets but the center stays soft.
- Let the cake cool for 5 minutes. Run a knife around the edge and invert onto a plate.
- Serve warm to enjoy the gooey center.
Notes
For best texture, warm the cake before serving. Can add a teaspoon of instant espresso for more depth!
