Description

A warm, soft cake with a gooey chocolate center, perfect for birthdays or quiet nights.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup (120 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (200 g) sugar
  • 1/2 cup (45 g) cocoa powder, unsweetened
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) milk
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) vegetable oil or melted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) hot strong coffee or hot water
  • 3/4 cup (130 g) dark chocolate chips or chopped dark chocolate (for center)
  • Optional: powdered sugar or ice cream to serve


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round pan.
  2. In a bowl, sift flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt. Stir in sugar.
  3. In another bowl, beat eggs. Add milk, oil, and vanilla. Mix well.
  4. Pour the wet mix into the dry mix. Stir until smooth.
  5. Add hot coffee slowly and stir until incorporated.
  6. Pour half the batter into the pan. Place the chocolate chips in the center.
  7. Pour the rest of the batter over the chips. Tap the pan to remove air.
  8. Bake for 20–25 minutes, until the top sets but the center stays soft.
  9. Let the cake cool for 5 minutes. Run a knife around the edge and invert onto a plate.
  10. Serve warm to enjoy the gooey center.

Notes

For best texture, warm the cake before serving. Can add a teaspoon of instant espresso for more depth!
