Description

A rich and moist chocolate cake covered in smooth chocolate frosting, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  4. Stir in boiling water (the batter will be thin). Pour evenly into the prepared pans.
  5. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Let cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove to wire racks to cool completely.
  7. For the frosting, combine butter, cocoa powder, and powdered sugar in a bowl, adding milk as needed to achieve a spreadable consistency. Mix well and frost the cooled cakes.

Notes

Store the cake at room temperature covered for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week. It can also be frozen for up to 3 months.
