Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup milk
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- Food coloring (black, orange)
- Decorative Halloween toppers (ghosts, pumpkins, spiders)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 8-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, mix the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, baking powder, and baking soda.
- In another bowl, whisk together the wet ingredients: softened butter, eggs, milk, and vanilla extract.
- Combine the wet and dry ingredients until smooth. Divide the batter into two bowls and add black food coloring to one and orange to the other.
- Pour the batters alternately into the prepared pans, creating a swirl effect.
- Bake for 30 minutes, checking with a toothpick for doneness.
- Let the cakes cool completely before frosting and decorating with Halloween toppers.

Be careful with food coloring; a little goes a long way. Use a knife or toothpick to create more patterns in the batter before baking.
