Description

A comforting and nostalgic classic dish, perfect for family dinners and gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
  • 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil leaves
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 package (16 ounces) spaghetti
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Use a wooden spoon to break it up into smaller pieces.
  2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté for another 3-4 minutes until the onion becomes translucent.
  3. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, and water. Mix well to combine.
  4. Add sugar, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Stir to combine all the ingredients thoroughly.
  5. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Allow it to simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally, for about 30 minutes to let the flavors meld.
  6. Meanwhile, fill a large pot with water and bring it to a boil. Add a pinch of salt and the spaghetti. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.
  7. Drain the spaghetti and transfer it to a serving bowl.
  8. Pour the prepared sauce over the spaghetti and toss gently to ensure the pasta is well coated with the sauce.
  9. Serve immediately, topped with grated Parmesan cheese and garnished with fresh basil leaves if desired.

Notes

Brown the ground beef well for a deeper flavor. Feel free to customize the sauce with added vegetables or spices to suit your taste.
