Description
A comforting and nostalgic classic dish, perfect for family dinners and gatherings.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
- 1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
- 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon dried basil leaves
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 package (16 ounces) spaghetti
- Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Use a wooden spoon to break it up into smaller pieces.
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté for another 3-4 minutes until the onion becomes translucent.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, and water. Mix well to combine.
- Add sugar, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Stir to combine all the ingredients thoroughly.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Allow it to simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally, for about 30 minutes to let the flavors meld.
- Meanwhile, fill a large pot with water and bring it to a boil. Add a pinch of salt and the spaghetti. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.
- Drain the spaghetti and transfer it to a serving bowl.
- Pour the prepared sauce over the spaghetti and toss gently to ensure the pasta is well coated with the sauce.
- Serve immediately, topped with grated Parmesan cheese and garnished with fresh basil leaves if desired.
Notes
Brown the ground beef well for a deeper flavor. Feel free to customize the sauce with added vegetables or spices to suit your taste.
