Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 package (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let sit for 5 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  3. Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).
  6. Punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface to your desired thickness.
  7. Transfer the dough to a pizza stone or baking sheet. Spread tomato sauce over the base.
  8. Top with mozzarella slices and season with salt and pepper.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the crust is golden and cheese is bubbly.
  10. Remove from the oven, garnish with fresh basil, slice, and serve hot.
