Ingredients
For the Cupcakes:
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 ½ tsp espresso powder
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ½ tsp ground nutmeg
- ¼ tsp ground ginger
- ⅛ tsp ground cloves
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup pumpkin purée (not pumpkin pie filling)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ cup milk
For the Frosting:
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1 tsp espresso powder
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Set to 350°F (175°C). Line a 12-cup muffin tin with cupcake liners.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, espresso powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, and salt.
- Cream Butter & Sugar: In a large bowl, beat butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add Eggs & Pumpkin: Beat in eggs one at a time, then mix in pumpkin purée and vanilla extract.
- Combine Wet & Dry: Gradually add dry ingredients, alternating with milk, until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
- Bake: Fill liners ⅔ full and bake 18–22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool completely on a wire rack.
- Make Frosting: Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Mix in powdered sugar, espresso powder, and vanilla until fluffy.
- Frost & Garnish: Pipe or spread frosting on cooled cupcakes. Optional: dust with cinnamon or garnish with a mini cinnamon stick.

- For a stronger coffee flavor, increase espresso powder in both batter and frosting.
- Store unfrosted cupcakes at room temperature for 2 days; store frosted cupcakes in the fridge for up to 4 days.
