Description

A warm, rich drink combining strong coffee, milk, chocolate, and peppermint with a splash of liquor for a cozy treat.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup hot strong coffee
  • 1 cup milk (dairy or plant)
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp sugar (or to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp peppermint extract
  • 1 to 2 oz coffee liqueur or dark rum (to taste)
  • Whipped cream or milk foam to top
  • Crushed candy cane or chocolate shavings to finish
  • Optional: 1/2 tsp vanilla


Instructions

  1. Brew one strong cup of coffee and keep it hot.
  2. In a small pot, warm the milk on low heat. Do not boil.
  3. Whisk cocoa and sugar with a few tablespoons of the warm milk to make a smooth paste.
  4. Add the paste back to the pot and warm until the milk is hot and smooth.
  5. Stir in the peppermint extract and vanilla. Taste and add more if you like.
  6. Pour the hot coffee into a large mug. Add the chocolate milk and stir.
  7. Add the liqueur or rum and stir once.
  8. Top with whipped cream or foam. Sprinkle with crushed candy cane or chocolate shavings.

Notes

Best served hot with a festive touch. Pair with baked goods for a cozy experience.
