Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup butter, melted
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/3 cup cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup small fresh strawberries, chopped
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)
Instructions
- Heat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8-inch pan.
- In a bowl, stir together sugar and melted butter.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in vanilla.
- In a separate bowl, combine cocoa, flour, salt, and baking powder.
- Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir until just combined.
- Fold in the chopped strawberries and chocolate chips, if using.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, testing with a toothpick for doneness.
- Let cool in the pan for 15 minutes before transferring to a rack to cool completely.
Notes
For best results, cut strawberries small to blend well, and dry them slightly to avoid extra moisture in the batter.
