Description

This Swiss roll is soft, light, and filled with your choice of a sweet filling. Perfect for tea or as a delightful treat!

Ingredients

  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (for chocolate roll)
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)
  • Filling of choice (like whipped cream, jam, or chocolate ganache)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a jelly roll pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, beat the eggs and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the vanilla extract and mix well.
  3. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, salt, and cocoa powder (if making a chocolate roll).
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the egg mixture, alternating with the milk, and mix until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until the cake springs back when lightly touched.
  7. Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool slightly.
  8. Place a clean kitchen towel on the counter and dust it with powdered sugar.
  9. Carefully turn the cake out onto the towel and peel away the parchment paper.
  10. Roll the cake up with the towel while it’s still warm. Let it cool completely in this rolled shape.
  11. Once cooled, unroll the cake, spread your chosen filling evenly, and re-roll it tightly.
  12. Dust with more powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Beat the eggs well to make the sponge light. Roll the cake while warm to avoid cracks.
