Description
This Swiss roll is soft, light, and filled with your choice of a sweet filling. Perfect for tea or as a delightful treat!
Ingredients
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (for chocolate roll)
- 1/4 cup milk
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
- Filling of choice (like whipped cream, jam, or chocolate ganache)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a jelly roll pan with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, beat the eggs and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the vanilla extract and mix well.
- In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, salt, and cocoa powder (if making a chocolate roll).
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the egg mixture, alternating with the milk, and mix until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until the cake springs back when lightly touched.
- Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool slightly.
- Place a clean kitchen towel on the counter and dust it with powdered sugar.
- Carefully turn the cake out onto the towel and peel away the parchment paper.
- Roll the cake up with the towel while it’s still warm. Let it cool completely in this rolled shape.
- Once cooled, unroll the cake, spread your chosen filling evenly, and re-roll it tightly.
- Dust with more powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
Beat the eggs well to make the sponge light. Roll the cake while warm to avoid cracks.
