Description
A rich and moist chocolate cake with three layers, topped with creamy chocolate frosting. Ideal for parties or cozy nights in.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix well.
- Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes. Stir in boiling water (the batter will be thin).
- Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool in pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans to cool completely.
- For the frosting, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and 1/2 cup cocoa, alternating with milk and vanilla. Beat until smooth and fluffy.
- Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread frosting on top, add the second layer, and repeat. Top with the final layer and frost the top and sides of the cake.
- Decorate as desired and serve.
Notes
Use room temperature eggs and milk for a smooth batter. Cool layers fully before frosting to prevent sliding.
