Ingredients
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 large egg
- Red food coloring (natural, if preferred)
- Sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix flour, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
- Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just combined.
- Divide the dough in half; tint one half with red food coloring.
- Roll dough into logs and chill until firm.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Slice the chilled logs into heart shapes and place on baking sheets.
- Add sprinkles on top, if desired.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges are lightly golden.
- Let cool before serving.
Notes
Ensure butter is at room temperature for easier mixing. Chill dough for easier slicing.
